Helen Frances Baker is an illustrator, ceramicist & creative practitioner, seeing & making in London, UK.
Originally from the North East of England, I am interested in the ways in which art and society interact. I believe in visual arts as a powerful force for change.
My personal illustration practice is informed by my love of reportage and drawing from life, which informs every aspect of my design process. I love sketching out and about around London, people watching and getting visual inspiration.
As an illustration student, I specialised in children’s picture book illustration and book cover design – often using my background working with children to inform my illustrations and design direction. I have previous experience creating digital illustrations as part of educational resources for schools and museums.
I am actively seeking opportunities to collaborate with other creative practitioners in community based art projects. With extensive experience working with children and families, I am especially interested in working with local authorities and community groups to make visual arts and crafts accessible to wider young audiences.
After three years working in childcare, I currently work full-time as a teaching assistant in a year 1 class - with one day a week as an assistant in the art department.
When I’m not illustrating or gallery hopping, you will find me at the potters wheel with a cup of earl grey!
